Twelve new satellites of Jupiter were discovered. Eleven of these are normal and one is “strange”. Thus Jupiter, the largest planet of the Solar System, had 79 satellites.

The discovery was carried out in search of the ninth planet. From Carnegie, who ran away from Pluto, the crew of Scott S. Sheppard recognized the new hordes as they searched for the possible giant planet.

The team pointed out that in 2014 there could be a planet beyond Pluto, with the farthest orbital known in the Solar System. The planet, whose existence is indirectly predicted, is known as Planet X or Planet 9.

“Jupiter was near the area we searched for, and when we were scanning the planet, we realized it was his new admiral,” Sheppard says.

Gareth Williams at the Minor Planetary Center of the International Astronomy Association used the team’s observations to calculate the orbit of the newly discovered satellites.

Williams: “A cismin needs a few observations to confirm that you’re back around Jupiter. This process lasted a year, “he says.

Nine of the new satellites are part of a remote external satellite system that is in orbit opposite to or opposite to Jupiter’s direction of rotation. These satellites cluster in at least three distinct orbital groups and are thought to be the result of collisions between asteroids, comets and other satellites. It has been estimated that the new orbits of the orbits of Jupiter have lasted for about two years.

Two of the new discoveries are part of the internal satellite group, which flies in the same direction as the planet’s return and close to the planet. All of these satellites have similar orbit and inclination around Jupiter. For this reason, they can be thought of as parts of a tornado. A tour around Jupiter takes two hours less than a year.

“The real strangeness in our discovery is that a suit has properties that are not similar to the known Jovian fit. The object, less than 1 kilometer in diameter, is also the smallest known Jupiter’s.

This new “strange” satellite has a more or less inclined orbit, far from other groups, and a tour around Jupiter takes about a year and a half. For this reason, it is located between the external and internal satellite groups.

As a result, head-to-head collisions can result in “strange” and distant groups moving in opposite directions to inner groups. This possibility is quite high.

“It’s an unstable situation. Eventually, the fighting will break down and become dust, “says Sheppard.

It is possible that the different orbiting satellite groups we have seen today have formed in the past with such an mechanism.

The crew thinks that this little “strange” suit is the ultimate product of head-to-head combat in the past. The name of the satellite Valetudo was suggested. This nomenclature comes from the great grandson of Jupiter, the god of the Roman god of health and hygiene.

To learn the factors that determine the orbital past of a satellites is also to learn about the early periods of the Solar System.

For example, the abundance of small satellites in the various orbiting groups around Jupiter indicate the collisions that occur in the gas and dust disk surrounding the system during the solar and planetary events.

The small size – usually 1 to 3 km – causes them to be much more affected by the gas and dust in their environment. The first rings of Jupiter would have collided to form the existing groups, causing the remaining gas and dust to move towards the planet with drifting to smaller chambers. The presence of the groups indicates that they are formed later from this gas and dust.
