To destroy mammoth star Eta Karina, one of the brightest stars in the Milky Way, is more than a big bang. Approximately 170 years ago, Eta Carinae (Eta Carinae) came to an explosion and the energy of a normal supernova explosion spread to the horizon. But the star survived.

Eta Karina fought one of two friends who were friends and destroyed it. At the same time, a standard supernova burst propagated to the farthest extent. (NASA, ESA, and A. Feild (STScI))

Astronomers are investigating the cause of this explosion. It is necessary to return to the 1800s in order to reach the data of the explosion, which is impossible. In this case it may be useful to rewind the time. The glow emitted by the explosion came back from the dust of the stars. Then it reflected back to the Earth. This is called light echo.

The real surprise was that the intensity of the explosion was 20 times worse than expected.

The observed velocities were much faster than the speed of the slower and softer winds that a big star carried before dying.

It was formed according to the new order by the disappearance of a star in the battle between the explosion in 1840 and the triple star system. During this fight, Eta Karina swallowed one of her two friends and had more energy out of 10 solar masses. The dumped mass formed giant bipolar, just like a barbell.

The Eta Karina system is located in the direction of the Karina constellation at a distance of 7500 light years.
